Experience tradition and history at Hagaled Gjestegård
Hagaled Gjestegård is one of the oldest farms in Nesbyen and has been family-owned for over 400 years. The estate features historic buildings from various centuries, transformed into unique accommodations where authenticity is preserved while modern comforts are ensured.
The guesthouse has a warm and authentic atmosphere, and each room is named after former residents of the farm. The family's history dates back to the late 1500s, involving everything from Scottish clan feuds to Danish nobility. Most of the farm’s owners have been steadfast Hallingdal locals, proudly preserving the estate and its traditions.
Welcome to a historic stay in the heart of Hallingdal!
Feedback from guests:
Guest, July 2025: This was one of two rooms we booked in a 17th century store house that has been converted to two rooms at Hagaled Gjestegård. Sigrun was our hostess on the property. We loved how much character this place had with many antiques in both the rooms and the main house/dining room! The beds and chairs were comfortable and there was plenty of hot water in the showers. Sigrun was very friendly and we enjoyed hearing about the farm's history and trying Norwegian foods at breakfast. It was lovely to sit on chairs on the lawn and enjoy the fresh air. Note that the property does have some quirks. The doorways are very low and the stairs are quite steep. As long as you are prepared to navigate these challenges this is a really special and unique place to stay. The guesthouse is about 1 km outside of town which was a nice walk. My son did guided mountain biking with Any Excuse to Ride which was awesome. We loved the Hallingdal Museum. Best place to eat is The Bear for bakery, pizza and ice cream.
Guest, August 2025: Hagaled Gjestegard was one of the highlights of our trip to Norway. We stopped in the town to explore some family ties to the area and found a wealth of knowledge in Sigrun. She was able to share so many interesting details about the region and even had a library with many family trees we could read from. The place itself is incredibly well maintained—if you’re interested in staying in a piece of Norwegian history, I highly recommend this place. It remains authentic while being upgraded with modern conveniences. We stayed in the Even room, which had plenty of space, hot water that worked quickly, clean and comfortable bedding, and reliable WiFi—everything you could wish for. We did not get the breakfast that was listed, but we did get a tour of the main house, and I have to assume it would have been a lovely, delicious experience. We didn’t have a car, but the walk from the train station was about 30 minutes and into town about 15. We hope to return to Sigrun’s in the future.
